The Magician Archetype
The Magician in Individuation
There is a perception that magicians have to belong to a secret society, but to be a true Magician one has to develop on one’s own. The greatest example of a magician in the 20th Century was Carl Jung.
The Magician has the power to explore not only his magical and spiritual world, but the worlds of others for healing.
Alchemy
Distillation
The Alchemical stage that this Key represents is Distillation, which incorporates other steps as well. This relates to the separation of the Spirit, through vapour from the matter through a Distillation apparatus, with a receptacle at the end catching the liquid. It is the separation of the Volatile from the non-volatile. It differs from the previous step of Sublimation because the vapour is not returned to the matter, which in effect has also changed composition. Here the Magician draws forth energy from Spirit Mercurius and transmutes it’s essence from Chaos (Volatile) into the non-volatile.
