Dreaming of the Tarot?

Tarot dreams have been lacking in my long spiritual journey, despite studying and working with the Tarot professionally. This has always been a source of wonder to me, as I have incredibly powerful dreams.

Dreams have always been a major part of spiritual development – there are famous dreams in the Bible. Joseph successfully interpreted dreams for Pharoah.

Dreams warn. Dreams indicate progress, ways to overcome obstacles, Dreams teach. When the dreamer is awake in dreams, he partakes in the spiritual work even when asleep.

Dreams are a vehicle for the unconscious to communicate. While dreams are always personal, the underlying themes, motifs and symbols have a common. This is why dreams are so important in psychotherapy.

One would think that the rich symbolism of the Tarot would be a perfect match with the symbolic language of dreams, but it doesn’t work like that. I decided to do a bit more digging by looking at some of the many popular online dream dictionaries.

This dream dictionary gives a better precis on the nature of tarot dreams.

To dream of a tarot reading indicates your current situation and state of mind. You are open to exploring your subconscious thoughts and feelings. Pay attention to what the Tarot Cards reveal. Consider the following general meanings of the four Tarot suits: The Wands represent fire, inspiration, spirituality, action, initiative, and the Psyche. The suit of the Swords signify air, determination, strength, faith, and conquering of fear. The Cups symbolize water, emotions, purity, and your outlook toward life and the future. The Pentacles denote finances, social influence, worldly knowledge, and your connection with nature and earth.

Tarot Cards dream represents an outlook on the future that makes you never want to question it. Negatively, tarot cards may reflect believing in fallacies or assuming too much of something. It may also reflect a powerful sense of certainty because you are too emotional about something. Bad advice that never wants you to look into anything else.

Dream Stop gives detailed interpretation for the Major Arcana in dreams. I have never seen a particular tarot card in a dream, but there is time.

Horoscope.com  gives examples of tarot dreams. Notice how none of the keywords are tarot related, but clicking on one of the links takes you to a particular tarot card. The associations are somewhat idiosyncratic. For example, “beach” takes you to The Sun Tarot card.
